In the Dominican Republic, 33 Buckets has teamed up with Schools for Sustainability to provide safe clean drinking water to Batey Sabana Larga near Monte Plata that is comprised of an estimated 150 people. The main source of water for the community has been tested and contains a high concentration of bacteria and coliforms including e. coli. Children frequently walk a mile away and crawl into a crevasse to fetch unsanitary water for their family. 33 Buckets and Schools for Sustainability held 25 initial interviews with all the families in the community to better understand the water situation. 33 Buckets adapt their solution to a smaller scale distribution unit to fit the community needs. Through Schools for Sustainability, 7 volunteers gained experiential learning experience. Our entrepreneurs, Anderson and Alta-Gracia, have already begun recording and reporting sales.
